Visagrafía®
An ideographic writing system for sign languages: every sign is written with an ideogram made of graphemes, typed like any other text and read on any screen with a font.
Each ideogram writes a sign of Colombian Sign Language. The word beneath it is the English translation; the sign itself is looked up by its gloss, a word of Colombian Spanish.

How it works, in three steps
- Graphemes are simple vector shapes (a face, a fist, a line, a circle…). They are drawn once, in the grapheme editor.
- Ideograms place several graphemes on a page, each with its position, its scale and its rotation. An ideogram writes one sign and is tied to its gloss, the word it is searched by: a word of Colombian Spanish, the spoken language of the community that uses Colombian Sign Language.
- The font turns the collection into a TrueType font: every sign gets its own Unicode character and visagrafía® text travels, copies and saves like any text. The keyboards (web, Android, Windows) write it by typing the word or by picking the graphemes that make up the sign.
